Each year, the Caddo Area Council, Boy Scouts of America, recognizes two of its volunteers who have demonstrated exceptional character and who have provided distinguished service within the local Scouting Movement. Registered leaders are nominated and a committee of volunteers review and make a selection from those applications. This year, Mike Asher from Texarkana, and Jackie Kirkland from Genoa, have been selected as the Caddo Area Council’s Silver Beaver recipients. Mike Asher began his Scouting journey as a Tiger den leader and then became an assistant Scoutmaster. He has served as an adult advisor for the Lodge and was selected to serve as Scoutmaster for the 2017 National Scout Jamboree Troop where he previously served as an assistant Scoutmaster for one of Caddo Area Council’s three 2010 NSJ troops. Mike is employed by Boston Scientific. Jackie Kirkland is the owner of Kirkland Construction, and has served in many areas during his volunteer career in Scouting including being a den parent, den leader, assistant Scoutmaster, Cubmaster, District Commissioner, and Scoutmaster. Along with the 2018 class of Eagle Scouts and other award recipients, Mike and Jackie will be honored during the Caddo Area Council’s Annual Recognition Banquet, scheduled for Friday, February 8,
2019, at 5:30 p.m. at Texarkana College in the Truman Arnold Building.
